Martlets Fall to Taft

Playing our final match in Kohn Squash Pavilion for the season, the Martlets took on the Rhinos from Taft. Up and down the ladder the Martlets played hard against strong opponents. William Jones ‘28, Mathias Seber ‘26 and Daniel Frid ‘27 all fought hard in their 3 game losses at #1,3 and 5 respectively. Issac Kwon ‘28 came very close to taking his third game at #6, with both players losing multiple game balls before the Taft player won 16-14. Crosby Cutler ‘27 and Alessio Suarez ‘27 both fought hard and pulled out one game in their matches at #4 and #7 respectively, before also falling 1-3. The match of the day (both for the Martlets and overall) was played by Will Henry ‘26 at #2. After taking the first two games, Will’s opponent rallied to take the next two to force the 5th game. Clearly fighting both his opponent and fatigue, Will dug in and took the final game 11-9 for the Martlets only point of the day. The match featured many lead changes, grueling rallies and incredible gets by both players. Andrew Ma ‘27, Sam Jiang ‘28 and Chip Genung ‘25 also fought hard in their exhibition matches. Also at exhibition, Zach Li ‘27 played an extremely long and competitive match which he ultimately dropped 11-7 in the fifth game. As our lone senior, Chip was celebrated and shouted out before the match. The boys all improved a lot over the course of the season. With many due to return next yea, the future looks promising!
